No EWwy for Becki

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

As mentioned previously, Entertainment Weekly honored the talented actors that didn’t get nominated for an Emmy this year with an award of their own – the EWwys! Becki was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her portrayal of Amanda in Ugly Betty.

Unfortunately she lost the award to The Office’s Amy Ryan. It was a close race, though, because Ryan scored 24 percent of the EWwy vote, edging out Scrubs‘ Judy Reyes (22%), and Becki Newton (21%). Rounding out the field (in order) were Wanda Sykes (The New Adventures of Old Christine), Kristen Schaal (The Flight of the Conchords), and Nicollette Sheridan (Desperate Housewives).

You’re still a winner in our eyes, Becki! Hopefully you’ll get an Emmy next year instead! ;)

Vote for Becki to win an EWwy!

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

So your favorite dramatic actress got zilch when it came to golden-statuette season? And those were tears – not laughter – that spilled forth when your favorite comedy of all time was passed over yet again by the wise men and women of the Emmys?

Never fear, television viewer. Your must-see TV shows and actors can still get their due, thanks to EW.com and Hulu.

Meet the EWwys, Entertainment Weekly’s answer to the Emmys. From now till Sept. 6, EW.com will let viewers vote for their favorites in five different comedy categories, including best series, best actor, best actress, best supporting actor and actress. From Sept. 6 to Sept. 11, voting is open in the drama categories.

Becki has been nominated for an EWwy for her role as Amanda in Ugly Betty! Be sure to visit EW.com and vote for her right away! Let’s make sure she wins this well-deserved award. Also, vote for Michael Urie for Best Supporting Actor!

Becki co-host Live with Regis and Kelly!!

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Just thought I’d stop by and let you all know that a) This site is not dead, I’m just working out of town for the summer and therefore don’t have the time to keep becki-newton.org updated, and b) The selected questions you sent me have been forwarded to Becki and will be answered as soon as she has the time.

Now onto even more exciting things – Becki co-hosted Live with Regis and Kelly on August 13th! She was completely adorable and so funny as she sat next to Regis Philbin for the show. The Host Chat can be seen at the official site of the show.

Congratulations!

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I’m sorry for not alerting you about this earlier, but I found out today. Becki appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien on Friday, looking absolutely amazing! Screen captures and perhaps a video clip as well will be added very soon.

Becki Newton wants John Legend

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Becki Newton belted out “Gene Simmons Is My Daddy” on Ugly Betty when her character Amanda finds out the Kiss rocker is her father.

And now she wants more.

No, not another ode to Mr. Simmons, but Newton says she’d like to release an album “someday.”

And she wouldn’t mind some help from an old college buddy from the University of Pennsylvania…

“You know who I love the most—John Legend,” Newton said last night at the Sunglass Hut and Gen Art opening of photographer Jeremy Kost’s Blinded by the Light exhibit at the Century City mall in L.A. “I used to see him playing the piano and singing on campus.”

When a friend suggested she duet with Legend, Newton beamed. “That’s a great idea! I should just call him up.”

The writers strike is over!

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Finally – The writers strike is officially over. Not a day too late. The Writers Guild of America lifted the strike a bit before 7p.m. PST, yesterday.

“The strike is over,” WGA West president Patric Verrone said. “Our membership has voted, and writers can go back to work. This was not a strike we wanted, but one we had to conduct in order to win jurisdiction and establish appropriate residuals for writing in new media and on the Internet. Those advances now give us a foothold in the digital age. Rather than being shut out of the future of content creation and delivery, writers will lead the way as TV migrates to the Internet and platforms for new media are developed.”

“Ugly Betty” cast joins the WGA Strike

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

“Don’t be greedy! Don’t be petty! You won’t get your Ugly Betty!”

This was the sentiment being shouted outside the gates of Raleigh Studios—where Ugly Betty tapes—yesterday afternoon, when the cast of the show gathered to join their writers in protest and proclaim solidarity.

Becki Newton said she’s counting her blessings at this point: “The writers worked so hard to finish these episodes, so we feel very fortunate that we still have [material] to be working on. We’re doing our best to honor their words, because these guys are the reason we’re here. Amanda is Amanda because of the lines they write for her, so I fully respect that, and I support them. People don’t realize that the characters they’re watching are a complete function of the writing.”
